My roommate in college was obsessed with celebrity plastic surgery. Every time I turned around, she was reading me another article or showing me another video that detailed the work that some starlet had had done. In some cases it was fascinating, but in most cases it seemed as though they had work done simply because they could afford it. It did not seem to me that most of them actually needed the surgery that they underwent. I would have rather seen those same plastic surgeons donate their services to children and adults who truly needed the procedures, but I understood they wanted to make money, too. Overall it was an interesting obsession that my roommate had, and I never thought it would be useful. Years later she was on a game show and ended up winning because she was able to answer a question about a famous person’s surgery.

I have just gotten back to work after a long vacation. My family and I went to our little hometown in West Virginia to visit my parents who have been longing to see and spend more time with their grandchildren. My kids are also very excited to see their grandparents after a long time. I made sure that this time around, all of us could stay longer than usual. I even made arrangements so that my husband, Mark, could take a few more days off from work. I am glad that his friend, Jon, volunteered to sub for him. Away from our usual busy world in the city, the vacation allowed us to do the things we've missed doing. In my case, I look forward to biking every morning. Although far from being the next lance armstrong, I know that a little exercise everyday will be good for me. I even encouraged Mark to join me and he did…for at least a few times. My kids enjoy fishing with their grandpa and before we could even go back home, they are already asking when they could come back again for another vacation.
